SUMMARY

This Picchio SR2 is a rare Italian race car, said to conform to the FIA LMP675/SR2 and Grand-Am/SRP2 classes, as well as the FIA CN4 class. Reported to be the last SR2 produced prior to the introduction of the Picchio D-USA, it is thought to be the only example with dual SR2 and CN4 class approval. Offered as a partially complete restoration, it would make a desirable project for a capable enthusiast or professional race team.

KEY FACTS
.
●             Founded in 1989 by Giotto Bizzarrini, Picchio built its first car (the SR2) in 1998, which made its debut at the Misano round of the International Sports Racing Series in July of the same year.
●             Also known as the A001 or the MB1, the SR2 originally used a 3.0-litre BMW DOHC naturally aspirated straight-six. However, this example is now powered by 3.0-litre 24-valve Alfa Romeo ‘Busso’ V6.
●             It is reported to be the last SR2 produced prior to the introduction of the Picchio D-USA, which was built under licence by Picchio’s North American distributor Armando Trentini, with collaboration from G&W Motorsports (now Synergy Racing).
●             It is thought to be the only example with dual SR2 and CN4 approval.
●             The car is offered as a partially complete (approximately 75%) restoration project and will require further work before it is driveable, including fitment of the Hewland FT200 five-speed manual transmission, as well as a new front splitter, rear wing, steering wheel, starter motor, ECU, and rear shock absorbers.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

●             The SR2 features a carbon-fibre and aluminium monocoque chassis, as well as fibreglass bodywork, and unequal length wishbone suspension with pushrod actuated coil springs over shock absorbers, and inboard rocker arms.
●             Specific notes from the seller include: competition-related dents and interior wear; the tyres, and roll bar.
●             It rides on 18-inch Speedline Corse five-spoke alloy wheels, housing AP Racing brakes with black callityres and shod with Avon competition tyres.
●             It also has a racing fuel cell, Sparco harnesses, a Tilton adjustable brake bias system, an OMP electric extinguishing system, and push-to-start.
