Paul Tracy is set to make his highly anticipated return to the Trans Am Series next week with Round 1 at Sebring International Raceway. This marks the beginning of his XGT campaign behind the wheel of the IRC GT backed by Innovation Race Cars and Race Cars for You.
This is yet another important milestone in Tracy’s expanding partnership with the IRC GT, building on his strong performance in last year’s Bathurst 12-hour Invitational class and his recent outings in the HSR races at Daytona and Trans Am testing at Sebring.
“I want to go for a championship,” said Tracy. “I loved racing the IRC down at Bathurst, and I jumped in the car at Daytona for the HSR races [with IRC president and founder Danny Stutterd]. The car is super impressive in terms of its performance out of the box — the IRC [USA] guys barely made any [setup] changes to the car across its U.S. tour, and every time I’ve driven it, it’s been a blast and immediately on pace. Only changes I’ve asked for are fresh sets of tires…”
The IRC GT is an Australian built, LS3 powered race car offering GT3 levels of performance with incredibly low running costs. While the IRC GT is currently confirmed for just the first two rounds of this year’s Trans Am series, Danny Stutterd, owner of Innovation Race Cars, says
“We’re still looking for partners to help transform this from a couple of rounds into a full-season effort. Paul’s entries are meant to showcase what the car can do and help generate sales in the market. The car makes so much sense on paper when you see its one-third of the cost of GT3 — not just in the price of the car, but more importantly the running costs as well. So really, Paul’s going to prove that it’s not just cost effective, but a real ripper around the track as well.”
Outside of the US, Innovation Race Cars has been busy prepping for the all new AASA backed standalone series for IRC and MARC cars. The series also recently announced that pre-2019 GT3 cars will be welcome to join. Stutterd says “I believe drivers and owners of older GT3 cars have been forgotten, left standing with nowhere to race. We at IRC would be very keen to have them run with us, we love the cars, and they lap at a very similar pace with similar driving standards”.
