1988 Porsche 944 Rothmans Turbo Cup
1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup – Ex-Ron Fellows | Rothmans Porsche Turbo Cup
The car was campaigned in the 1990 Rothmans Porsche Turbo Cup series by Canadian racing legend and hall of famer Ron Fellows. It is one of the most historically significant examples of Porsche’s one-make racing program in North America.
During the 1990 season, Fellows achieved three podium finishes, two pole positions, and one ‘fastest’ lap, cementing this car’s place in Canadian motorsport history.
One of only 38 factory-built Canadian Turbo Cup cars, these were purpose-built by Porsche with factory lightweight components and competition-focused upgrades. It has since been correctly restored to its original 1990 Mackenzie Rothmans series livery, preserving its authentic race-day appearance. The front hood still has its original hand-painted livery from the 1990 season, and many of the graphics are also original, with very few that required attention.
We recently refreshed the brake system (Pagid pads added, treated brake rotors, hardware, and calipers cleaned, serviced and exercised), suspension bushings and mounts (rear subframed removed, cleaned and serviced), added Tractive semi-active racing shocks, poly bushings were added to the steering rack, all wheel bearings have been replaced front and rear, front camber plates, and the front lower control arms were replaced with upsized ball joints.
Power plant and support system refresh includes a full engine service (cam and timing belts, rollers), radiator, intercooler, fully updated silicone cooling hoses, and air and intake hoses. The engine performance was checked, fuel injectors were replaced, and all ignition components (distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wire set) were replaced to ensure reliable performance and proper boost levels for safe use on the track.
It was updated to meet HSR racing requirements for entry in their historic events, while maintaining the sanctuary of complete originality. These updates include a Recaro racing seat, a fire system, and new driver restraint belts.
All the fluids have been changed; a four-wheel corner balance and four-wheel alignment have been completed; the shift linkage has been fully restored with new bushings; the fuel lines at the rail have been updated with new genuine parts; and more.
Showing just over 11k total kilometers from new, it remains an exceptionally well-preserved, low-mileage example, with all the sensible service and updates completed, ready for track days at Sebring!
Fresh and prepared, eligible for vintage endurance racing and historic Porsche events worldwide, this 944 Turbo Cup represents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of Porsche racing heritage.
