1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Race Car with new BBS wheels
I acquired the car in March of 2024 with the following build history at the time of purchase: ECU and KLR rebuilt in 2023 by Specialized ECU Repair. The motor was rebuilt by the prior owner with Pouter connecting rods and Mahle pistons and had about 3 hours on the motor. The motor and turbo rebuild was by Kapp’s European in Orem, UT. It was essentially built to stock specs for longevity (220 hp). Since that rebuild, the car had 6-7 DE events and one race before my purchase.
The car came with the following upgraded components: Wheel/tires: 285/30/18 squared; Lindsey Racing 3” exhaust, Konni coil-overs, Wave-Trac LSD, KISS oil cooler, MOMO removable steering wheel, fire suppression system, FAST cool system, DME 111 chip, short shift kit, Lindsey Racing camber plates, Big Black brakes, Fiberglass hood, Lexan windshield, rear hatch. New wastegate in 2021, New Sabelt Taurus driver seat in 2021, new Sabelt 6pt Enduro harness in 2021, new fuel rail in 2021, New DME relay switch in 2021, front seals, O-rings, gaskets on balance shafts, crankshaft and camshaft replaced in 2021, also timing belts and rollers replaced in 2021.
The following are car modifications and developments I’ve done over the last two and a half years at a total cost of $30,000:
Anderson race shop: Installed Sabelt Titan passenger seat with Sabelt 6pt endurance harness. Had ECU & KLA removed, tested, and upgraded by Specialized ECU Repair. Inspect and clean all dash components and wiring connections, plus remove all unused wiring harness. Fabricate and install trans-cooler radiator and pump in the rear tire well area with driver controlled off/on switch. Install Lindsey Mas Airflow sensor, MAF kit. Relocate fire suppression system to the rear compartment area. Replace all wheel studs with long studs, replace front wheel bearings, and repack rear wheel bearings.
Vision Motorsports: Removed vacuum-managed waste gate system and installed a mechanical spring-controlled waste-gate system with a 12 psi rated spring.
CRE race shop: Replaced engine mounts, front seals, main seal, oil drive sleeve, oil pump O-ring, crack-shaft heat shield, oil pan gasket, balance shaft gear, balance shaft flange, timing belt, and counter balance shaft belt. Install new Porsche clutch kit (turbo) + transmission limited teardown and inspection (good condition). Garret turbocharger complete rebuild and reinstall. The car has only had about 12 sessions of testing since purchase. I developed the car for driver coaching and endurance racing… but when I got it done, my endurance racing plans had changed, and the car looks so awesome – I decided it’s time for a new home and owner… Race Car total investment to date: $47k
